Introduction

Founded in 2016, NYO2 is part of Carnegie Hall’s acclaimed summer programme, which brings together talented young musicians from across the USA for an intensive summer orchestral training course.

Aimed at 14-17 year olds, NYO2 is focused on recruiting top instrumentalists from communities that are currently underrepresented in the Classical music industry. The programme offers fully-funded places to allow young people the opportunity to receive training from top professionals, giving them the opportunity to share their artistry and expand their musical horizons.

Highlights of NYO2’s history include a side-by-side performance at Carnegie Hall with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Grammy Award-winning vocalist/bassist Esperanza Spalding, annual residencies and a partnership with New World Symphony in Miami, and work with conductors and soloists including Giancarlo Guerrero, Carlos Miguel Prieto and Gabriela Montero.

In Summer 2023, NYO2 embarked on their inaugural international tour to the Dominican Republic, with two hugely successful concerts in Santo Domingo and Santiago, along with side-by-side work with local schools and students from the National Conservatory of Music in Santo Domingo.
