Yannick Nézet-Séguin makes his conducting debut as Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera

Yannick Nézet-Séguin makes his conducting debut as Music Director of the Metropolitan Opera New York tonight with a brand new production of Verdi’s La traviata.

Diana Damrau stars as Violetta with Juan Diego Flórez returning as her Alfredo in this new production directed by Tony Award-winning Broadway director Michael Mayer, mixing beauty and tradition with a modern twist.

Yannick did not expect to begin his tenure with Verdi’s opera but believes, ‘the stars aligned to make it this’. La traviata was the first opera he worked on as assistant conductor and choirmaster at the Opéra de Montréal in 1998. Twenty years later, it is his time again.

Further information about the production, including performance dates, can be found on the Metropolitan Opera website.
