This Sunday, mezzo-soprano Virginie Verrez will make her eagerly-anticipated debut at Glyndebourne as Erika in Samuel Barber’s Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Vanessa. Olivier Award-winning director Keith Warner also makes his Glyndebourne debut, directing a new production with conductor Jakub Hrůša and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Virginie will star alongside Emma Bell as Vanessa and Edgaras Montvidas as Anatol, with Rosalind Plowright and Donnie Ray Albert as The Old Baroness and The Old Doctor. This will be the first time Barber’s opera has been performed at Glyndebourne.

Highlights of Virginie’s thrilling 2017/18 season included her debut at the Opéra National de Paris as Flora in Verdi’s La traviata, Zerlina in Don Giovanni at the Dallas Opera and Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte at Opéra de Lille. She also appeared on concert platforms across the world with Le Concert d’Astrée, Minnesota Orchestra, Orchestre National de Lyon and the Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne.
This season, Virginie will join the ensemble at the Wiener Staatsoper, where upcoming productions will include Carmen (Mercédès), Don Giovanni (Zerlina), Falstaff (Meg Page), Le nozze di Figaro (Cherubino), La Cenerentola (Tisbe), Die Zauberflöte (Second Lady), Cavalleria rusticana (Lola) and Lucia di Lammermoor (Alisa). She will also return to the Opéra de Paris to reprise the role of Flora in La traviata.
