In its first international tour under new Artistic Director Francesco Ventriglia, the Royal New Zealand Ballet returned to the UK in late 2015. The RNZB presented its sumptuous classical production of Giselle alongside a mixed bill of contemporary works: A Passing Cloud. This dynamic programme featured recent works by leading NZ choreographers Andrew Simmons and Neil Ieremia – both of whom created new pieces to commemorate the centenary of WWI – alongside Venezuelan choreographer Javier De Frutos’ Pacific-inspired The Anatomy of a Passing Cloud and Greek choreographer Andonis Fonidakis’ Selon désir.
The six-week tour included performances in Edinburgh, Leeds and Canterbury, as well as the company’s debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. RNZB then continued on to Italy for further performances in Udine, Vicenza and Rome.
