Fresh from a successful tour to China with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Nicola Benedetti, Thomas Søndergård makes his debut with Orchestre National de France tonight in performances of Elgar’s Cockaigne Overture, Lalo’s Cello Concerto with French cellist Raphaël Perraud, and Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5, of whom he is an acclaimed interpreter.
Next week sees Thomas’ return to the BBC National Orchestra of Wales joined by soloists Catriona Morison and Stephen Hough in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4 and an all-Mahler second half (Ruckert-Lieder and Symphony No. 10 Adagio). Thomas makes a further debut later this month with Tapiola Sinfonietta in Finland, including Esa-Pekka Salonen’s Five Images after Sappho. Other highlights this season include a further tour with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to the United States, his debut with Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra and visits to Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.
