Saleem will perform two concerts at the 50th Harrogate International Festival
this weekend as their Artist in Residence. He will explore the theme of national identity in music in a recital programme that explores how composers throughout history have used folklore as a way of finding social and national identity. The programme includes solo works by Beethoven, Chopin, Medtner and Bartók.
For his second concert he will be joined by a quartet from the Polyphony Foundation
in Israel that he established with his brother Nabeel Abboud Ashkar to bring Arab and Israeli communities together through music education. The quintet will perform an eclectic programme including music by Nazarene composer Wisam Gibran, Dvořák and Shostakovich.
