Askonas Holt artists Robert Murray and Dominic Sedgwick perform at the inaugural Cambridge Song Festival, which launches on Friday 15 February and brings a dedicated, city-wide Festival of Song to the heart of Cambridge. Featuring evenings recitals and an afternoon masterclass, performances take place at Jesus, St John’s, and Sidney Sussex Colleges.
Robert and pianist Andrew West will be joined by actor and poet Seán Street for a unique performance of Schubert’s Winterreise that blends song and spoken word. Schubert’s settings of Wilhelm Müller’s poems are brought together with extracts from Captain Scott’s Antarctic diaries, combining two winter journeys to create a dark, intense, and powerful shared drama of the human psyche.
On Sunday 17 February, Dominic and fellow Jette Parker Young Artist Jacquelyn Stucker bring the festival to a close with songs by Barber, Berg, Butterworth and Debussy, and the second book of Hugo Wolf’s Italian Songbook.
