This Friday Jonathan Biss
will be gracing the stage at the Ulster Hall in Belfast to perform the European premiere of Timo Andres’ New work for piano and orchestra – ‘The Blind Banister’ – with the Ulster Orchestra
, and their Chief Conductor Rafael Payare
This work is part of the American pianists’ ambitious, five-year project
, in which he delves further into the music of Beethoven and explores the inevitable influence he has had on today’s classical music. Considering the undeniable and powerful influence of Beethoven’s music in classical music today this project takes five different compositional voices – from different parts of the world and different musical traditions – each of them writing a work which, in whatever way they see fit, responds to one of the Beethoven piano concerti. The works will trace Beethoven’s diverse development over the decades, each response being surely more diverse still – they will be a testament to Beethoven’s near endless reach.
Jonathan’s performance with the Ulster Orchestra follows on from his fantastic week with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra with immediate re-engagement. This season Jonathan will also be performing in the US, Australia and the UK, including performances with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall, and the Wigmore Hall.
