Warm congratulations to Enrique Mazzola on his triumphant debut with Vienna Symphony Orchestra this weekend. The Italian maestro stepped in at short notice for an indisposed Bertrand de Billy to conduct a ravishing French programme of Bizet’s Symphony No.1 and Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique.
The Viennese audience was treated to two stunning concerts over the weekend at the Musikverein as part of their ABO series, and was a wonderful way for Enrique to make his Viennese debut.
This last-minute engagement comes in the middle of a very busy season for Principal Conductor of Orchestre National D’Ile de France—who are currently celebrating their 40th season with a variety of special programmes. A praised bel canto specialist, later this season he conducts Tancredi at Theatre des Champs Elysées and returns to the Bolshoi Theatre for La sonnambula.
