Emmanuel Pahud will give the world premiere of Saccades, Philippe Manoury’s Flute Concerto on Sunday 8 July at the Köln Philharmonie, with the Gürzenich Orchester conducted by their Music Director, François-Xavier Roth. Further performances take place on 9 and 10 July, with the concert on 10 July broadcast via live stream:
Emmanuel is committed to expanding the flute repertoire and regularly commissions works; already this year he has given the premiere performances of Luca Francesconi’s Daedalus for flute and ensemble with the Boulez Ensemble, and Toshio Hosokawa’s trio for flute, cello and piano, Klänge der lethe with Jean-Guihen Queyras and Eric le Sage. In September, he will join his fellow Soloists from the Berliner Philharmoniker at the BBC Proms on 3 September for the premiere of Nina Šenk’s Baca.
In addition, his most recent recording for Warner Classics, Solo, showcases music from the 20th and 21st centuries, including Takemitsu, Pintscher, Berio, Pärt and Widmann, alongside the solo Fantasies by Telemann.
Following the three concerts in Cologne, Emmanuel and the orchestra will travel to Amsterdam, where he performs Mozart’s Concerto in G major KV 313 at the Concertgebouw on 11 July.
