Domingo Hindoyan returns to Chicago’s Lyric Opera

Domingo Hindoyan begins the New Year leading further performances of La bohème at Lyric Opera of Chicago. Having already made his highly successful debut at the Lyric Opera in Autumn 2018, his previous performances of the work have garnered glowing criticism from the press, where the Lyric Opera Orchestra “sounded marvellous under the idiomatic and nuanced baton of Maestro Hindoyan” (Buzz Center Stage, Oct 2018). Further reviews include:

“Venezuelan conductor Domingo Hindoyan made an impressive Lyric debut in the pit, bringing out the best from the company’s orchestra and vibrantly pacing the action. He was at his best during the Act One duet between the two lovers, as he organically responded to and supported these singers.”
Kyle Macmillan, Chicago Sun Times

“Conductor Domingo Hindoyan made an impressive Lyric debut leading the orchestra in an accompaniment that was responsive to the singers, with vibrant work from the chorus (prepared by Michael Black) and characteristically nimble and exuberant singing from the Chicago Children’s Choir (led by Josephine Lee)”
Chicago Tribune

Looking ahead, Domingo’s thriving opera work this season features several significant house debuts at Royal Opera House Muscat (La traviata), Wiener Staatsoper (Turandot), and Liceu Barcelona (Luisa Miller), in addition to returning to Staatsoper Berlin for Tosca, with the title role performed by Askonas Holt artist Sonya Yoncheva.

In advance of taking up the position of Principal Guest Conductor of the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra for the 2019/20 season, Domingo conducts the orchestra this March with a diverse programme comprising of Dukas, Barber, Stravinsky, and Debussy. Domingo will return to the UK this season for his Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra debut, in addition to engagements with Würth Philharmoniker, Orquesta Filarmonica de Gran Canaria, and Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo.

La bohème will run from 10 to 31 January. For more information on Domingo’s performances in Chicago, click here.
