David Afkham conducts his first Bluebeard’s Castle, plus Parra world premiere

This week, David Afkham conducts his first Bartók Bluebeard’s Castle, alongside the world premiere of Hector Parra’s Avant la fin… vers où? with the Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España. Bluebeard’s Castle follows highly successful performances of other semi-staged works including Bach’s St Matthew Passion (2018), Elektra (2017), Der fliegende Holländer (2016), Parsifal (2015) and the Magic Flute (2013).

Highlights as a symphonic guest conductor include debuts with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and returns to the Chicago Symphony, NHK Symphony, Swedish Radio Symphony, Münchner Philharmoniker, Danish National Symphony, Wiener Symphoniker (Musikverein, Bregenz Festival), Oslo Philharmonic, Orchestra of Accademia Santa Cecilia and HR Sinfonie Orchester Frankfurt. Future opera projects include Hansel & Gretel (Frankfurt Opera), Der fliegende Holländer (Stuttgart Opera, Tokyo Opera Nomori Festival) and Rusalka (Theater an der Wien).

Performances of Bluebeard’s Castle and Avant la fin… vers où? take place on 20, 21 and 22 April at the Auditorio Nacional de Música de Madrid. More information here.
