Christina Gansch returns to the Hamburgische Staatsoper

Christina Gansch returns to the Hamburgische Staatsoper on Sunday as Gretchen in a new production of Schumann’s Szenen aus Goethes Faust. Achim Freyer directs, with Kent Nagano conducting a first-rate cast featuring Christian Gerhaher as Faust and Franz-Josef Selig as Mephistopheles. This will be the second time Christina has sung this role, following success at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in the summer of 2018.

A former studio and ensemble member in Hamburg, Christina has previously appeared as Pamina Die Zauberflöte, Gretel Hänsel und Gretel, performed the title role of Handel’s Almira, Oscar Un ballo in maschera, Ascagne Les Troyens, Jemmy Guillaume Tell, and Constance Dialogues des carmélites. She will return to reprise the role of Pamina in Die Zauberflöte later this season.

This marks the beginning of a great season for Christina with highlights including her American debut as Dorinda Orlando for the San Francisco Opera, and Dew Fairy in a new production of Hänsel und Gretel for the Royal Opera.

Szenen aus Goethes Faust will be performed at the Hamburgische Staatsoper on 28 and 31 October, and 3, 6, 9, 14 and 17 November. More information can be found here.
