We are delighted that so many of our artists will be appearing in this year’s BBC Proms festival which starts on 17 July.
There will be a big focus on piano works at this year’s festival with more than 25 solo pianists featuring across the season including Lars Vogt, Daniel Barenboim, Sir Andràs Schiff and Maria João Pires.
For the first time at the Proms, a series of Sunday matinees is being introduced aimed at families. They include concerts celebrating the first year of Ten Pieces, the BBC’s classical music initiative for primary schools, with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Music Director Thomas Søndergård.
Violinist Alina Ibragimova is a featured artist in this year’s festival and performs Bach’s complete Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin over two Late Night Proms, joins Apollo’s Fire for a Proms Saturday Matinee and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra for a performance of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.
Other star names include Daniel Barenboim, who returns with his West-Eastern Divan orchestra and violinist Guy Braunstein, while Sir Simon Rattle conducts a performance of Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius featuring soloists Magdalena Kožená and Toby Spence alongside the BBC Proms Youth Choir and the Vienna Philharmonic.
Other leading conductors include Bernard Haitink, Michael Tilson Thomas, Edward Gardner, Harry Bicket and Robin Ticciati, and among the starry soloists include Christopher Maltman, Christine Rice, Lucy Crowe, Sophie Bevan, Rebecca Evans, Iestyn Davies and Yo-Yo Ma.
Our touring department is responsible for bringing to the Albert Hall some of the world’s great orchestras including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony Orchestra and Vienna Philharmonic.
