Angelika Kirchschlager makes role debut in Sweeney Todd

Austrian Mezzo-Soprano Angelika Kirchschlager makes her role debut as Mrs. Lovett in a new production of Sweeney Todd by Andreas Homoki for Opernhaus Zurich. She is joined by fellow Askonas Holt artist Brindley Sherratt, who returns to Zurich to sing his first musical as the evil Judge Turpin alongside Angelika and Bryn Terfel as Sweeney Todd.

Angelika’s season opened with a hugely successful recital debut of Schubert’s Winterreise at the Wiener Staatsoper alongside pianist Julius Drake. Following her appearances in Sweeney Todd, Angelika will sing Mrs. Muskat in Liliom for Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz. This season Angelika will be the ‘Guest of Honour’ at the Leeds Lieder Festival, where she will also give a recital and series of masterclasses.

Following a huge success earlier this season singing his first full Ring Cycle as Fafner, Brindley’s 2018/19 season also sees his Claggart in a new production of Billy Budd at Covent Garden and Sarastro in a new production of Die Zauberflöte at the Glyndebourne Festival.

Performances of Sweeney Todd begin on the 9 December and run through to the 11 January. For more info and tickets, click here.
