This weekend, the critically acclaimed duo Alina Ibragimova and Cédric Tiberghien embark on a three-week tour of Japan and Korea. Alina and Cédric first collaborated as members of the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists scheme in 2005. The unique partnership which developed between the two artists was picked up by The Times who concluded its review of the duo’s final recital as part of the New Generation Artists scheme at the 2007 Cheltenham Festival, by commenting that “both of these players have the potential to conquer the world”.
Upcoming highlights for the duo include recitals at the Mitaka City Arts Center in Tokyo, Denki Bunka Kaikan Concert Hall in Nagoya, Hyogo Prefecture Arts Center in Hyogo, Aoyama Memorial Hall in Kyoto’s Baroque Saal and back in Tokyo’s Oji Hall in a mixture of repertoire by Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven.
Alongside the duo recitals in Japan, Cédric also has four solo recitals in Japan and Korea, playing a combination of programmes including works by Liszt, Mussorgsky, Prokofiev and Hersant. Highlights for Alina will also include performances of Brahms’ Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Japan Century Orchestra conducted by Kazuyoshi Akiyama and Bartók’s Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra conducted by Kazuhirro Koizumi.
