Opera de Montréal present the world premiere of Another Brick in the Wall. Based on the lyrics and music of Pink Floyd’s co-founder Roger Waters’ The Wall, this operatic version is composed by Julien Bildeau and directed by Dominic Champagne, featuring Etienne Dupuis in a role inspired by the album and film’s rock star, Pink.
Roger Water’s inspiration for this operatic project is particularly noteworthy, after a concert at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium in 1977, which developed into a concept album in 1979 and then a film in 1982. This opera is described as a “psychological drama inspired by Roger Waters’ life”. (Opera de Montréal website)
“Following his father’s death in the Second World War and the continued abuse of his teachers and mother, Pink cuts himself off from the world around him. The break-up of his marriage is the final brick in the metaphorical wall he has built. When his very survival depends on it, will Pink be able to tear down his inner wall?” (Opera de Montréal website)
