Teresa Carreño Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela

Introduction

Since its creation in 2007, the Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra of Venezuela (TCYOV) has performed under distinguished Venezuelan maestros such as Gustavo Dudamel, Diego Matheuz, and Joshua Dos Santos and consists of 165 musicians who make up the third generation of Venezuelan musicians educated by El Sistema. They have also been guest conducted by internationally renowned maestros such as Sir Simon Rattle, Claudio Abbado, Sung Kwak, Rebecca Miller, and Nikolaj Znaider. Many distinguished artists have performed as soloists with the orchestra, including Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma and conductor Krysztof Penderecki.

Askonas Holt has managed several European tours with the orchestra, including concerts in London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Vienna and Salzburg as part of the festival’s El Sistema residency in 2013. In 2015 the orchestra appeared at the Teatro alla Scala as part of El Sistema’s EXPO Milan 2015 residency.  Later in the year, the TCYOV embarked on their first Asian tour conducted by Christian Vásquez – which included concerts in Japan and Taiwan.
