Introduction

The Silk Road Ensemble, a collective of internationally renowned musicians, composers, arranagers, visual artists and story tellers musicians from around the world, including the cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Artists from the Ensemble have collaborated on a range of musical and multimedia projects, presenting innovative performances that are explore the relationship between tradition and innovation in music, inspired by teh ancient trading route between China and Europe.

Askonas Holt worked with the Ensemble in their hugely successful Proms debut in 2004, and the Ensemble returns to the BBC Proms on 11 September.
