Introduction

Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the National Orchestra of Sweden, is one of the most distinguished orchestras in Europe. Founded in 1905, its Nordic profile was moulded by the likes of Wilhelm Stenhammar, Carl Nielsen and Jean Sibelius. The orchestra became an international force under the leadership of Neeme Järvi and in 2007, the Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel became its music director.

Since 2007, Askonas Holt has toured the orchestra with Gustavo Dudamel to London (Royal Festival Hall and BBC Proms), Edinburgh, Aldeburgh, Paris, Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, Rheingau Festival, Essen, Cologne, Munich, Vienna, Luxembourg, Barcelona, Valencia, San Sebastian and Valladolid. In 2009 Askonas Holt will tour the Gotheburg Symphony to the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, Beethovenfest Bonn, Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels, and Concertgebouw Amsterdam; and in 2010 for 4 concerts at the Festival de Musica de Canarias.
