Vienna Philharmonic & Berlin Philharmonic at the BBC Proms
The Vienna Philharmonic and Bernard Haitink are in London for the first of two Proms. Murray Perahia will join with the orchestra to play Beethoven’s fourth piano concert in the first half before we hear Bruckner’s ninth symphony to end the concert. Tomorrow evening sees a sell out performance, broadcast live on BBC Four, of Haydn’s ‘London’ Symphony, no. 104 and Strauss’ Alpine Symphony. These two London concerts come mid-tour, which started at the Salzburg Festival and will finish next week at the Lucerne Festival. This will be the second time in two weeks that Askonas Holt has brought a big Philharmonic Orchestra to the Proms following on from the hugely successful Berliner Philharmoniker Proms with Sir Simon Rattle last week.
