Celebrated Sibelius interpreter Thomas Søndergård makes his debut with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchester this week, in a programme featuring Sibelius’ Symphony No.5 and All’ Overtura from the ‘Scènes Historiques I’ orchestral suite. With renowned percussionist Martin Grubinger he also leads the orchestra in Kalevi Aho’s ‘Sieidi’ – a concerto for percussion and orchestra.
In the remainder of this season Thomas makes further debuts with the Toronto Symphony and Netherlands Philharmonic. He also returns to DSO Berlin, Houston, Atlanta and the Danish National Symphony Orchestras. Future plans include returns to many of his regular guest orchestras and debuts with Deutsche Oper Berlin, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and international touring with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
Concerts at Leipzig Gewandhaus take place on 27, 28 and 29 January.
