Following the great success of their Sibelius Symphonies 2 & 7 recording, today Thomas Søndergård & the BBC National Orchestra of Wales released Sibelius’ Symphonies 1 & 6 on LINN records.
This new recording will cement their partnership as one of the great new Sibelius teams, as they prepare to perform Symphonies No. 2 and 7 at the BBC Proms this summer.
Highlights of Thomas’ 2016/17 season have included debuts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra, Puccini’s Turandot with the Bayerische Staatsoper and the world premiere of Scartazzini’s Edward II with the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Thomas also made return visits to the Oslo Philharmonic, Göteborgs Symfoniker, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and Royal Danish Opera for Rossini’s Il viaggio a Reims.
Thomas has also undertaken a number of projects with the RSNO, including Sibelius’ Violin Concerto with Janine Jansen, plus recordings and touring of Stravinsky’s The Firebird with BBCNOW.
Thomas and BBCNOW are currently on tour, performing tonight (19 May) at Paris’ new venue, La Seine Musicale, becoming the first international orchestra to do so.
