Saleem Ashkar embarks on tour of Australia

This week sees Saleem Ashkar embark on a three-week Australian tour. While there, he will perform with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra — his third re-invitation from this orchestra —the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.

To start, Saleem will perform Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1, under Otto Tausk, in Melbourne. Travelling south, to the island of Tasmania, Saleem will then join conductor Douglas Boyd for performances, in Hobart and Launceston, of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4. Finally, Saleem concludes his tour with performances in Adelaide of Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1, with Richard Farnes.

Saleem has previously recorded Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and conductor Riccardo Chailly, a disc which BBC Magazine praised as capturing “just the right balance of clarity, swiftness of attack, poetry and élan”. Buy on Amazon.
