Rafael Payare makes his Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin debut

This week sees Rafael Payare’s highly anticipated subscription debut with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, giving two concerts on Sunday 29 October and Monday 30 October at the Philharmonie Berlin. Conducting a programme of Debussy’s L’isle joyeuse and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10, Rafael will also be accompanied on stage by soprano Christiane Karg to perform Britten’s Quatre chansons françaises and Ravel’s Shéhérazade. The concert on Sunday will be broadcast live from the Philharmonie Berlin on Deutschlandfunk Kultur at 8pm (local time).

Fresh from highly successful concerts with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra as well as the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, upcoming highlights for Rafael this season include a return to the Vienna Philharmonic for concerts at the Vienna Konzerthaus and a Baltic tour with Elīna Garanča. Rafael also makes debuts with the Minnesota Orchestra joined by mezzo-soprano Virginie Verrez, the Staatskapelle Dresden and Pittsburgh Symphony; and make return visits to the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester, Chicago Symphony and Czech Philharmonic.

Christiane makes operatic debuts this season at the Wiener Staatsoper (Mélisande) and Metropolitan Opera (Susanna) and returns to Teato alla Scala (Euridice) and the Bayerische Staatsoper (Calisto). 2017/18 concert appearances include performances with the Orquestra Nacional de España, Tonhalle Zurich, Leipzig Gewandhaus, London Symphony Orchestra and a European tour with the Budapest Festival Orchestra.
