Rafael Payare makes BBC Proms debut

Rafael Payare makes his debut at the BBC Proms this weekend with his Ulster Orchestra in a programme to include the world premiere of a BBC commission by composer Piers Hellawell, and Tchaikovsky’s powerful Symphony No 5. They will also be joined by cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan for Haydn’s Cello Concerto No 1.
Entering his third season as Chief Conductor of the Ulster Orchestra, their partnership is now acknowledged as one of the most dynamic in the UK, the 16-17 season marking the orchestra’s 50th anniversary.
Future highlights of the 2016-17 season for Rafael include his debuts with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra (2 September) and Accademia di Santa Cecilia Orchestra (3, 4 & 5 November), as well as return visits to the Munich Philharmonic (23, 24 & 25 November), Royal Stockholm Philharmonic (with Alisa Weilerstein, 5 & 6 October) and the Philharmonia Orchestra at Southbank Centre (9 March 2017).
