This year’s Oxford Lieder Festival will be a celebration of Schubert, and sees the performance of the entire collection of songs in a series of evening recitals, lecture recitals and master classes. Sholto Kynoch has programmed what is sure to be an exciting three week Schubert Project, which features prominently the world renowned Schubert expert Graham Johnson
, who will give weekly lecture recitals, as well as performing full evening recitals with Christopher Maltman
and Wolfgang Holzmair. We are delighted that Askonas Holt artists are so well represented at this year’s festival, by pianists Graham Johnson, Malcolm Martineau
, Joseph Middleton
, Gary Matthewman
and James Baillieu

October 10: Opening gala concert including performances by Sarah Connolly, John Mark Ainsley, Joshua Ellicott, Neal Davies and Christopher Maltman.
October 11: Duo recital including Sylvia Schwartz and pianist Gary Matthewman.
October 13: John Mark Ainsley makes a second appearance in the festival.
October 14: Christopher Maltman’s solo evening recital with Graham Johnson.
October 15: Sarah Connolly returns for a shared evening recital.
October 16: Winterreise performed by Ian Bostridge and Thomas Adés.
October 17: Master class by Dame Felicity Lott.
October 18: Graham’s weekly lecture recital features performances by Benjamin Hulett, Benjamin Appl and Robert Murray.
October 20: Robert Murray appears alongside Jonathan McGovern, accompanied by James Baillieu.
October 21: Christiane Karg and Andrew Staples perform a duo recital with pianist Joseph Middleton.
October 22: Benjamin Hulett and Mark Stone perform in an evening triorecital, together with soprano Sophie Daneman
October 23: Imogen Cooper performs Schubert’s Piano Sonata in B-flat, D960
October 25: Benjamin Appl returns for another morning lecture recital with Graham Johnson, followed by a further performance of Winterreise in the evening, this time with baritone Sir Thomas Allen and pianist Joseph Middleton.
October 26: Lunchtime recital featuring soprano Susan Gritton.
October 27: John Mark Ainsley makes a further appearance in an evening trio recital.
October 29: Joshua Ellicott appears once more at the festival, for an afternoon duo recital alongside soprano Malin Christennson, followed by a solo evening recital by Angelika Kirchschlager.
November 1: the closing gala concert of the festival features Kate Royal and Jonathan Lemalu.
