Yannick joins Deutsche Grammophon
Deutsche Grammophon announced today the start of a long-term collaboration with Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
Yannick's first appeared on the prestigious Yellow Label conducting DG's DVD recordings of Gounod's Roméo et Juliette (filmed at the 2008 Salzburg Festival) and Bizet’s Carmen (filmed at The Metropolitan Opera, New York). His relationship with the label was recently reinforced by the announcement of a new recording partnership with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, of which Yannick is Music Director and with whom he is scheduled to make a series of three orchestral recordings for DG, starting with Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony, the “Pathétique”.
In a significant extension of this ongoing relationship,Yannick will now be conducting a major new cycle of Mozart’s seven mature operas for DG. The Yellow Label’s first such cycle since Karl Böhm’s classic sets of the 1960s and 1970s, DG’s new Mozart series will be launched in September with the release of a recording of Don Giovanni featuring Yannick and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra . This recording, made at the Baden-Baden Summer Festival in 2011, is followed by Così fan tutte this summer. In the performances on 11 & 14 July, Yannick will be joined by the Chamber Orchestra of Europe. Fellow Askonas Holt artists Miah Persson and Adam Plachetka are also in the cast.
Over the next few years, Yannick will conduct Idomeneo, Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Le nozze di Figaro, La clemenza di Tito and Die Zauberflöte for DG. One constant factor throughout the series will be the presence of Rolando Villazón in all the lead tenor roles. Villazón conceived the idea of the cycle after performing in last year’s Don Giovanni and he and Yannick will be acting as joint artistic consultants for the entire project.
