Vilde Frang’s greatly anticipated recording of the Korngold & Britten Violin Concertos is released later this month on 26 February.
Performing with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by James Gaffigan, the recording has already received much attention, with Gramophone naming it their ‘recording of the month’: “A hugely impressive recording, Vilde Frang’s brilliant control and dramatic intensity as assured in the lush themes of Korngold’s Concerto as in the technical extremes of Britten’s”.
Awarded 4*’s in the Guardian, Vilde’s sound was described as “… superb – icy, fiery, whispered, ultra-rich – and her phrases pour out fearlessly, urgently. It’s a fresh and convincing performance.”
Future plans for Frang include performances of the Korngold with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin at the Philharmonie with Robin Ticciati, and the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Alte Ope with Cristian Macerlaru. In March she will embark on a North American recital tour with pianist, Michail Lifits, which will include her Carnegie Hall debut, and on 1 May she will make her debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Sir Simon Rattle performing the Mendelssohn concerto as part of their Europa Konzert.
