NACO Opening Night with Alexander Shelley

ELGAR Suite from ‘The Wand of Youth’
ZOSHA DI CASTRI ‘Dear Life’
MAHLER Symphony No 4

Alexander Shelley opens his tenure as Music Director of Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra on 16 September 2015 with two different tales on life and childhood: Mahler’s symphonic setting of a child’s view of heaven contrasting with Nobel Prize-winner Alice Munro’s portrait of her own childhood as depicted in her short story ‘Dear Life’. Commissioned as a meditation on childhood and memory, ‘Dear Life’ features soprano Erin Wall and the voice of legendary Canadian actor Martha Henry. Visit the NACO’s website for more information.
In Europe Alexander continues his long-term relationships with the
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie and Nuremberg Symphony. This season he debuts with Oslo Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic and returns to the Leipzig Gewandhaus and DSO Berlin.  His second recording for DG is out in November.
