Following on from two stunning performances of LumenoCity
on 3 & 4 August 2013, anticipation for Louis Langrée’s debut season as Music Director of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra has been dramatically increased.
LumenoCity, an open-air event which juxtaposed an inventive visual light display with the virtuosic playing of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra was an extraordinary opportunity for Louis to develop his relationship with the city of Cincinnati, before he has even officially started in his new role! The total number of attendees was 35,000 people and will surely increase the city of Cincinnati’s interest in their new Music Director.
The gigantic audiences were treated to a programme which included the ‘Fanfare’ from Richard Strauss’s ‘Also sprach Zarathustra
’ and the fourth movements of both Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.4
and Beethoven’s Symphony No.5
. Alongside the Symphony Orchestra, contributions from the Cincinnati Pops, members of the May Festival Chorus, dancers from Cincinnati Ballet and Singers from Cincinnati Opera marked a unified effort to welcome the city’s newest orchestral star.
Louis’ official inauguration as Music Director will take place on 8 November in an anniversary concert of the Gettysburg Address, which features contributions from Dr. Maya Angelou alongside Beethoven’s Symphony No.5.
