“Prokofiev and Ibragimova wouldn’t be Prokofiev and Ibragimova if they didn’t leave you in a tizzy, unsure whether to laugh or cry.” The Times
Alina Ibragimova has attracted widespread acclaim for her new recital disc of Prokofiev’s Violin Sonatas and Five Melodies. The recording with pianist Steven Osborne went straight to the top of the classical chart in the week of its release, was chosen as Gramophone’s Recording of the Month and BBC Music Magazine’s Chamber Choice for their August edition and reviewed as ‘Outstanding’ by International Record Review.
In his review for Gramophone, Geoffrey Norris describes the “dream-like, sometimes passionate, sometimes rarefied impulse that Ibragimova and Osborne convey with exactly the penetrating insight that is manifest throughout this remarkable disc”. See the August edition of Gramophone to read the full review and an interview with Alina, in which she gives an insight into the desolate sound world of Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata no. 1.
