Joyce DiDonato – “A role I always knew I had to sing”

Sunday afternoon sees Joyce DiDonato give her first staged performance as Charlotte, in Benoît Jacquot’s sumptuous production of Massenet’s ‘Werther’, alongside Vittorio Grigòlo (title role) and Sir Antonio Pappano in the pit at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
A much anticipated debut, DiDonato discusses the role she was born to sing here. The performances in London follows her recent triumph in the role in a concert version with the Orchestre National de France and Juan Diego Flórez in Paris.
‘Werther’ opens this Sunday, 19 June at The Royal Opera House, with further performances taking place on 24 & 27 June, and 3, 6 & 13 July. Further details here.
The performance on Monday 27 June will be broadcast live in cinemas. Find your local cinema here.
