Jane Henschel – the “Queen of mean”!

Jane Henschel presented her legendary Ortrud for the Lanaudiere Festival in her first collaboration with Yannick Nézet-Séguin, conducting his first Lohengrin and, indeed, his first Wagner. Jane took over at very short notice  and has received praise from the press throughout such as “At the opposite end of the moral spectrum was Jane Henschel as Ortrud. This experienced American mezzo-soprano, standing in for Deborah Voigt, was a true queen of mean…..” (Montreal Gazette).  This concert completes Jane’s 2012/2013 season which included returns to Paris, Amsterdam, Dresden and Birmingham working among others with Christian Thielemann, Andris Nelsons and Vladimir Jurowski. Jane’s 2013/2014 season will take her to the Metropolitan Opera New York Der Rosenkavalier, Beijing Peter Grimes, Madrid Brokeback Mountain, the Salzburg Easter Festival Arabella and Baden-Baden Faust while concerts include Salome with the Wiener Staatsoper at Carnegie Hall and also with the Boston Symphony Orchestra – both conducted by Andris Nelsons.
