Many congratulations to Ian Bostridge, whose latest recording Shakespeare Songs with Antonio Pappano on Warner Classics has won this year’s Record Academy Award in the Opera/Vocal category. Organised by Japan’s prestigious Record Geijutsu magazine since 1963, the Record Academy Awards are given annually to the best classical music discs in 15 different genres, voted for by a selection committee comprising Japanese classical music critics and journalists.
Ian said of the award: “I am delighted that our Shakespeare disc has won the Record Geijutsu Magazine award. It is a great honour, especially as I value so much my opportunities over the years to come to Japan and engage with the wonderful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Japanese audiences. Thank you.”
In addition, the disc has been nominated for a GRAMMY Award in the Best Classical Solo Vocal Album category. The winners will be announced on 12 February 2017.
