‘Handel at Vauxhall’ CD Launch for Sophie Bevan and Eleanor Dennis

Sophie Bevan and Eleanor Dennis feature on the new Handel Series of discs for Signum Records; ‘Handel at Vauxhall’ Volume One with the London Early Opera, conducted by Bridget Cunningham. The album – which is released today – pays tribute to the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, London and creates a charming image of an evening there, where Handel and other distinguished British contemporaries were favoured.
The disc features Sophie singing an unrecorded Handel Vauxhall song, ‘The Advice’. She previously appeared on the first album in this series, ‘Handel in Italy’ Volume One, with an outstanding recording of Handel’s ‘Gloria’ to great acclaim:
“This is as polished an account as any on account of Sophie Bevan’s unerring sense of decorum for what each movement requires” – Editors Pick, Gramophone, October 2015
“Sophie sings it peachily with a richer-sounding soprano than previously recorded exponents” – Hugh Canning Sunday Times August 2015
Soprano Eleanor Dennis also features in this new Handel series singing the duet ‘As steals the morn upon the night’ from Handel’s ‘L’Allegro’, ‘Il Pensieroso ed il Moderato’ with Greg Tassell and Thomas Arne’s unrecorded Vauxhall song ‘Colin and Phoebe, A Pastoral’ with tenor Greg Tassell and bass Benjamin Bevan.
Eleanor has further solo arias on the second volume of ‘Handel at Vauxhall’ with London Early Opera, to be released in April 2017.
