Scottish Chamber Orchestra: India with Amjad Ali KhanA unique project, bringing together the greatest living sarod player, two of the UK's most pioneering young classical artists one of Europe's leading chamber orchestras in a meeting of the musical cultures of East and West at the highest level. After their successful collaboration in the Royal Festival Hall in 2002, Amjad Ali Khan Amjad Ali Khan and Matthew Barley join forces again, this time with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. Over the course of two years, they will work together to produce a work that truly brings together the Eastern and Western music traditions. SAMAGAM >/i> will be a concerto for sarod and orchestra, notated and conducted by David Murphy. This concerto will be performed in London for the first time at the City of London Festival in June 2008, followed by a tour to India in February 2009, planned to include the major cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
