Vassily Gerello

Vassily Gerello

"The grandeur, tonal substance and old-fashioned clout of a truly significant vocal instrument, yet another in the astonishing recent Kirov baritone line" is how one London critic described baritone Vassily Gerello. Mr Gerello's voice is suited to many of Verdi's baritone roles particularly Renato in 'Un ballo in maschera', Germont in 'La traviata', Miller in 'Luisa Miller', Conte di Luna in 'Il Trovatore', Paolo in 'Simon Boccanegra' and Posa in 'Don Carlo'. His other repertoire includes Figaro in 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia', title role in 'Eugene Onegin' and many of the bel canto parts. A principal artist with the Mariinsky Theatre and one of Valery Gergiev's favourite singers, Mr Gerello combines his time with the Mariinsky to pursue an international career. He has already appeared at Covent Garden, Vienna State Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Paris Opera, Houston Grand Opera and Bayerische Staatsoper.

His future engagements include Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at the De Doelen Hall in Rotterdam, Tomsky in Pique Dame at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Barnaba in La Gioconda at the Teatro Municipal de Santiago and Paolo in 'Simon Boccanegra' with the Metropolitan Opera.
