Sylvia Schwartz

Born in London of Spanish parents, soprano Sylvia Schwartz studied with Manuel Cid at the Escuela Superior de Canto in Madrid and at the ‘Hanns Eisler’ music school in Berlin with Thomas Quasthoff, Wolfram Rieger and Julia Varady.

She joined the ensemble of the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin Unter den Linden in 2005 where she has sung, amongst other roles, Zerlina in Mozart’s 'Don Giovanni' conducted by Daniel Baremboim and in addition performed in a special concert for Mozart’s birthday with Thomas Quasthoff, transmitted live by ARTE. She has given numerous song recitals recorded by RNE2, the Spanish National Radio and Spanish television, and has made a recording of German Lieder for the record label EMEC, and several recordings of Spanish polyphony for ENCHIRIADIS.

This year she has sung with Sir Colin Davis and Claudio Abbado at the Edinburgh Festival, followed by Zerlina at Milan’s La Scala conducted by Gustavo Dudamel. Her next engagements include Monteverdi conducted by René Jakobs, Mahler’s 4th Symphony on tour with the Israel Philharmonic under Termikanov and the title role in Handel’s 'Alcina' at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto.
