Paul Goodwin
Paul Goodwin is one of Britain’s most versatile conductors, equally at home with Monteverdi or Maxwell Davies. He divides his time between opera productions and concert performances, working with both early instruments and modern orchestras. He is Associate Conductor of the Academy of Ancient Music.
Since his ground breaking staged version of the Bach St Matthew Passion in partnership with the producer Jonathan Miller, Paul Goodwin quickly gained public recognition and regular opera productions have followed. This season his opera projects include Idomeneo with Graz opera, Haydn's Orfeo with the Spanish National Orchestra and Handel's Orlando at Opera Australia.
His most recent CD releases include, 'Ikon of Eros' by John Tavener with the Minnesota Orchestra (released by Reference Recordings in September 2003), Handel’s opera "Lotario" with the Baselkammerorchester and a CD of Christmas Music from Praetorius to Britten. The latter is one of three CDs to be released with the SWR Kaiserslautern Orchestra, which will be followed by a Richard Strauss disc and a Stravinsky and Hartmann disc.
Paul is a popular guest conductor in Europe, where his work has included performances with the Orchestre National de Lille, the Komische Oper Berlin Orchestra and Helsinki Philharmonic. In the US his appearances have included National Symphony Orchestra Washington and the Minnesota Orchestra. His recent work in the UK includes performances with the BBC Philharmonic, Hallé Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia and Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
Paul Goodwin was awarded the Handel Honorary Prize of the City of Halle (Saale) in 2007 in recognition of his extraordinary services to performances of works by George Frederic Handel.
