Northern Ballet Theatre

Northern Ballet Theatre (NBT) is a touring narrative dance company whose distinctive blend of classical dance and theatre is renowned for captivating new audiences. For up to 30 weeks of the year NBT’s company of 40 dancers tour a combination of new work and acclaimed repertory pieces across the UK and overseas. This extensive touring schedule demonstrates NBT’s commitment to providing opportunities for all people to have access to excellence in dance performance and participation.

NBT’s current Artistic Director, David Nixon, joined the company in August 2001 and has revitalised its training programme and added a variety of challenging works to the repertoire, including Madame Butterfly, I Got Rhythm, Swan Lake, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, Peter Pan and Dracula. Going forward, the company will continue to create full-length narrative dance, for which NBT is now renowned throughout the dance world, as well as giving UK premieres of international works, in order to highlight a wealth of emergent choreographic talent.

Northern Ballet Theatre won the ‘Audience Award’ at the 2004, 2005 and 2006 National Dance Awards, and readers of Dance Europe magazine voted David Nixon ‘Director of the Year’ in 2003 and in 2006, the only Director to ever win the award twice.
