Martene Grimson

Martene Grimson graduated from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music before moving to London where she received the Diploma of Advanced Opera at the Royal College of Music’s Benjamin Britten Opera School. She completed her studies at the National Opera Studio and won the second prize in the 2006 Kathleen Ferrier Awards.

Martene has given recitals at the Royal Opera House in the Lindbury Studio and Crush Room. She made her Wigmore Hall debut as part of the Tillett Trust Young Artist Platform and her other recital engagements include St John Smith Square for the Rosenblatt Series, Fairfield Hall Croydon, the Harrogate Festival and the London Festival of Song. Her concert engagements include Brahms ‘Requiem’ under Sir David Wilcocks at the Royal Albert Hall, concerts with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment under Frans Bruggen in Bristol and at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Hansel and Gretel with the BBC Concert Orchestra under Charles Hazelwood at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Chichester Festival. Operatic engagements have included Glauce ('Medea') for the National Reisopera, Ilia ('Idomeneo') for Pinchgut Opera in Sydney, First Witch (‘Dido and Aeneas) for Opera North, Mrs Gleaton (Floydd’s 'Susannah') and Laurette (Bizet’s 'Le Docteur Miracle') for Wexford Festival; Hyacinthus, in Mozart’s 'Apollo and Hyacinthus' in the UK, Italy and France, and Aminta in 'Il Re Pastore' in Italy and at the Barbican with the Classical Opera Company. Her current engagements include a Strauss tour of the UK for Raymond Gubbay, Susanna (‘Le Nozze di Figaro’) for Opera East, Melia (‘Apollo and Hyacinthus’) and Sivene (‘Le Cinesi’) for Bampton Classical Opera and a concert performance as Dorinda (‘Orlando’) with Independent Opera at Wigmore Hall.
