John Mac Master

Canadian tenor John Mac Master scored a resounding success as Canio at the 2002 Glimmerglass Festival. In Europe Mr Mac Master has appeared at the Paris Opera (‘Der Rosenkavalier’) and the Vienna Volksoper (Brauenfel’s ‘Die Vogel’, Grigori in ‘Boris Godunov’ and Offenbach’s ‘Ritter Blaubart’). He made his debut in both Frankfurt and Stuttgart as Herodes (‘Salome’). Recent engagements include Canio for The Metropolitan Opera, Opera Pacific and L’Opéra de Montréal, Cavaradossi ('Tosca') and the Prince ('The Love for Three Oranges') for Opera Australia, his first Laca in ‘Jenufa’ for the Canadian Opera Company, and Aegisth for the Vancouver Opera. He sang the role of Casey in the world premiere productions of Richard Danielpour's opera 'Margaret Garner' in Detroit and Philadelphia, made his debut at the Semperoper as Calaf ('Turandot'), sang Florestan with the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Colin Davis and his first Tristan for Welsh National Opera.

Future engagements include his first Otello in Montreal, excerpts from “Götterdämmerung” in concert with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and Sir Charles Mackerras, and Gurrelieder in Barcelona.
