Hong Kong Sinfonietta
Founded in 1990, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta has become one of the most well respected orchestras in Asia. Together with its dynamic music director Yip Wing-sie, who has blazed the trail for many young musicians in Hong Kong, the orchestra has brought quality orchestral music closer to the community, and has also made its mark on tour in major cities in Asia, and at the St Riquier Festival in France, where the orchestra has been re-invited for a second concert this season. Among the illustrious musicians and groups the Hong Kong Sinfonietta has worked with are Vladimir Ashkenazy, Christopher Hogwood, Robert King, Luciano Pavarotti, Mikhaïl Rudy, Melvyn Tan, Lang Lang, and the Kirov, Bolshoi and Stuttgart Ballets. The orchestra has an extensive repertoire - from chamber music to symphonies, and from the baroque to the contemporary, and also boasts a rich Chinese orchestral repertoire that few orchestras in the world can rival.
