Gregory Kunde

Tenor Gregory Kunde is regarded by many as the most elegant and accomplished bel canto singer on the opera stage today. He has impressed audiences in the world’s leading theatres with his sensitive phrasing, impeccable style, and dramatic command of the most demanding roles of the Italian and French bel canto repertoire.

He has appeared in many of the world's leading theatres including Teatro alla Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Wiener Staatsoper, Bayerishe Staatsoper, Theatre des Champs-Elysees, Rossini Opera Festival, Rome Opera, Chatelet, Zurich Opera to name a few. He is a favorite of conductors and stage directors alike and has collaborated with many outstanding talents such as Richard Bonynge, Giancarlo del Monaco, Riccardo Muti, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, John Nelson, Pier Luigi Pizzi, Michel Plasson, George Pretre, Claudio Scimone, Alberto Zedda among others.

2006/07 season was filled with exciting moments: La Donna del Lago at the Edinburgh Festival, Busoni’s Doktor Faust at the Zurich Opera, concerts in Japan, title role in Gounod’s Faust in Malaga, Arturo in I Puritani at the Met, Lucrezia Borgia in Las Palmas, Iphigenie en Tauride with the Orchestre de Radio France in Paris, La Damnation de Faust with the San Francisco Symphony, Dallas Symphony and Welsh National Opera, title role in Benvenuto Cellini with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Colin Davis and finally the title role in Rossini's Otello at the Rossini Opera Festival. The Sunday Times wrote of his performance in Otello "with his two tenor colleagues, Kunde triumphed, earning prolonged ovations - louder even than those accorded to Florez - for the finest singing I have heard emerge from his throat."

Highlights of future engagements for Gregory Kunde include Leicester in Rossini's Elisabetta, Regina d'Inghilterra at the Monnaie, Argirio in Tancredi at the Teatro de la Maestranza Seville, Pirro in Ermione at the Rossini Opera Festival, Rodrigo in La Donna del Lago at the Geneva Opera, La Damnation de Faust with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Symphony and BBC Philharmonic and further performances of Rossini's Otello with the Rossini Opera Festival on tour to Japan.
