Franck Ollu
Franck Ollu has an impressive career as a versatile and imaginative conductor, and is globally considered an expert in the field of contemporary music. Artistic Director of the Swedish Ensemble for New Music “KammarensembleN”, Franck Ollu works regularly with the Ensemble Modern and often collaborates with leading composers. He has conducted the Bayerischer Rundfunk, Orquesta Nacional d’Espańa, Orchestre National de Lyon, and Helsinki Philharmonic and future dates include return visits to Iceland Symphony, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Aarhus Symphony, Orquestra Nacional do Porto and debuts with the Sudwestrundfunk Sinfonieorchester and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
Recent world premieres include works by Hans Zender, Peter Eötvös, Emmanuel Nunes, Brian Ferneyhough and Wolfgang Rihm. Last season he conducted the world premiere of George Benjamin's new opera, led performances of Pascal Dusapin's opera 'Medea', and Stravinsky’s Rake’s Progress’, and conducted a new Dusapin opera commission at the Aix-en-Provence Festival. He will conduct the new production of Wolfgang Rihm’s Jakob Lenz directed by Andrea Breth in 2010.
Franck Ollu was born in La Rochelle, France and studied music in Paris. He became principal horn player of the Ensemble Modern in 1990, and first started conducting in 1999 when he was 2nd conductor to John Adams for Ives’ Symphony No. 4.
