New AppointmentOn Tuesday 12 December the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra announced the appointment of 31 year old Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin as Music Director, succeeding Valery Gergiev from August 2008.
The announcement comes just two years after his European debut in Toulouse in November 2004, during which time he has made an extraordinary impact through a series of debuts which led to an unbroken string of re-invitations from every orchestra with whom he has worked outside Canada.
The Rotterdam Philharmonic were one of the first major European orchestras to extend him an invitation, and following the enormous success of his first visit to them in October 2005 they immediately re-booked for the following year. Subsequent to his second engagement in October 2006, he became the unanimous choice of musicians to succeed Valery Gergiev as Music Director from August 2008.
