Daniel Barenboim - Beethoven Sonata CycleRoyal Festival Hall, London January / February 2008
In January 2008, the legendary pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim embarks on an unforgettable cycle of the Beethoven Piano Sonatas, his first at the Royal Festival Hall for over a quarter of a century. These 32 masterpieces, performed across 8 concerts, represent an extraordinary musical and spiritual journey: from the pristine clarity of the early works through the heady romanticism of the famous Pathétique, Moonlight and Appassionata sonatas, and culminating in the unprecedented emotional and technical challenges of Beethoven’s final utterances. Maestro Barenboim brings a lifetime of experience as a performer and musical thinker to this extraordinary pianistic challenge. This will be joint promotion between Southbank Centre and Askonas Holt.
