Arild Remmereit and Natalie Clein delight audiences across the pondCongratulations to Arild Remmereit who conducted the Utah Symphony Orchestra last week. The Salt Lake Tribune writes: "Remmereit's reading was lovingly shaped and richly detailed, and the orchestra displayed a lovely array of tonal colors [...]The atmosphere was almost palpably charged in the slower movements, as Remmereit masterfully managed the dramatic tension.
Askonas Holt's wonderful cellist Natalie Clein was the soloist for the concerto in this programme and Deseret News writes the following: "A performer of consummate musicality and impeccable technique, she gave a glowingly nuanced reading that didn't miss a thing. It was as if this concerto was written for her.
Her collaboration with Remmeit, with whom she has worked several times in the past, was sublime. They had the same approach to the work: they captured the dark, brooding quality of the music with effusive lyricism. It was a musical pairing without equal."
The Salt Lake Tribune writes: "British cellist Natalie Clein joined the orchestra after intermission for an emotionally charged performance of Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto. From the opening bars, Clein displayed a luscious, rich tone and a magically seamless interaction with the orchestra."
Immediately before her concerts in Utah, Natalie had given performances of the Walton Cello Concerto in Buenos Aires with the Orquesta Filarmonica del Teatro Colon. A review from www.lanacion.com reads "Natalie Clein is a wonderful cellist, producing a broad, intense sound with an impeccable tone, a limitless range of expression, and with an admirable technical skill."
By coincidence, when leaving South America, Natalie was sat next to an Argentine musician who told her her he was a tango pianist and arranger.
Natalie says "By the time we landed in Utah , he had agreed to write an orchestral arrangement of the Piazzola Milonga for me to play as an encore two days later. It's a great arrangement and I'll definitely add more by him to my repertoire soon! His name is Roger Helou and his group is called Silencio."
Natalie will play the Elgar Cello Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Barry Wordsworth conducting in the Indigo2 series at the O2 Arena in Greenwich on 28 November 2008.
