Maltman Magic

Although he is currently rehearsing the role of Aeneas for a new production by Deborah Warner of Purcell's opera for the Vienna Festival, Christopher Maltman managed to find time in his busy schedule to give a wonderful recital at London's Wigmore Hall with Graham Johnson on Sunday 23 April. The recital featured an interesting and unusual programme, devised by Johnson, of Goethe settings by Schumann, Loewe and Wolf. A committed recitalist, Maltman enjoys juxtaposing his performances in opera with frequent appearances in the concert hall. The coming season is no exception and he has a wonderful twelve months of recital work ahead of him including a return to the Wigmore Hall exactly one year to the day on 23 April 2007 !

At this year's Schwarzenberg Schubertiade (13 June), he will perform another innovative programme, again devised for him by Graham Johnson, which includes some Schubert rarities that have not yet been performed in Schwarzenberg. Other recital highlights in the coming season include appearances at the Brighton Festival (19 May 2006), St Paul, Minnesota (09 June 2006), Buxton Festival (21 July 2006), the Ravinia Festival (27 July 2006), the Tonhalle, Zurich (15 January 2007), Washington (27 April 2007), and San Francisco (29 April 2007).
